No BAAIs SendGrid HIPAA compliant?
Checked 6 Nov 2026 from 3 vendor sources
Twilio states it cannot sign BAAs for SendGrid and tells customers not to use SendGrid for anything involving PHI. Based on that, don’t use it with patient data.
| Plan or product | BAA |
|---|---|
| All SendGrid plans | Not covered |
What the BAA leaves out
- SendGrid is not a HIPAA Eligible Service
- Encrypting the body yourself or sending secure links does not make it eligible
Proof from the vendor
- HIPAA compliant (SendGrid docs)No BAA for SendGrid, no PHI use, not a HIPAA Eligible Service
- SendGrid support articleTerms bar covered entities and business associates from using the service for PHI

This isn’t legal advice. A BAA is one requirement. Your clinic still has to set the tool up correctly and control who has access. Vendors change their terms, so confirm with the vendor before you sign. PHI means protected health information, which includes patient data.
