Is Adobe Acrobat Sign HIPAA compliant?
Checked 6 Nov 2026 from 2 vendor sources
Adobe lists Acrobat Sign as a HIPAA-Ready Service and says customers need the correct license and a signed BAA with Adobe to process PHI, without naming qualifying plans. So the answer depends on your plan. Check yours below before any patient data goes in.
| Plan or product | BAA |
|---|---|
| Adobe products not designated as HIPAA-Ready Services | Not covered |
| Acrobat Sign under the correct license with a signed Adobe BAA (Adobe does not name the plans) | Covered |
What the BAA leaves out
- Any service not designated HIPAA-Ready
- Analyzer in Sign until Adobe confirms HIPAA readiness is enabled; an executed BAA alone is not enough
How to get the BAA
Contact your Adobe sales representative or customer success manager.
What the vendor says to do
- Sign a BAA with Adobe through your sales representative or customer success manager
- Configure the service under the shared responsibility model
- For Analyzer in Sign, ask your Adobe Sales contact to enable HIPAA readiness and wait for confirmation before processing PHI
What we couldn’t confirm
We couldn’t read Adobe’s HIPAA configuration page, so setup steps are missing here. Adobe’s consumer Acrobat isn’t on its HIPAA Ready page.

This isn’t legal advice. A BAA is one requirement. Your clinic still has to set the tool up correctly and control who has access. Vendors change their terms, so confirm with the vendor before you sign. PHI means protected health information, which includes patient data.
