Best HIPAA compliant online fax services

2 tools compared. Checked 6 Nov 2026.

Fax is still common in healthcare. Online fax vendors usually limit their BAA to business plans.

Where to start

Start with eFax, which lists BAA coverage from its Business plan up. Fax.Plus limits its BAA to Enterprise.

eFax

On some plans

eFax lists BAA coverage for its Business, Corporate and Unite products and states that eFax Personal does not offer a BAA.

Covered: eFax Business; eFax Corporate; eFax Unite.

Left out: eFax does not list other products such as All Access, Clarity, Managed Services, ECFax, the eFax API or Conductor as BAA-covered; it does not state they lack one.

Fax.Plus

On some plans

Fax.Plus says HIPAA compliance with a BAA is available only on its Enterprise plan, requested by an owner or admin in account settings.

Covered: Enterprise, billed monthly or yearly.

Left out: Zapier, which is disabled when HIPAA is enabled.

Before you choose

  • Confirm the BAA covers your exact plan and every feature you’ll use.
  • Get the BAA signed before any patient data goes in.
  • Turn on the settings the vendor requires, and train your staff on them.

This isn’t legal advice. A BAA is one requirement. Your clinic still has to set the tool up correctly and control who has access. Vendors change their terms, so confirm before you sign. PHI means protected health information, which includes patient data.
